Local minor-leaguers: Ford steals base, scores run

OF Darren Ford (Vineland) pinch-hit and reached on an error, stole a base and scored a run for the Indianapolis Indians (Pirates) in a 5-2 win over Gwinnett in the triple-A International League on Sunday. Ford is hitting .246 with eight runs scored, four RBIs and nine stolen bases in 17 games.

RHP A.J. Holland (Holy Spirit) is scheduled to start today for the Lynchburg Hillcats (Braves) against Winston-Salem in the Class-A Advanced Carolina League after Sunday’s game against Salem was rained out. Holland is 1-1 with a 4.12 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 192/3 innings through four starts.

OF Matt Szczur (Lower Cape May Regional) and the Tennessee Smokies (Cubs) were rained out for the second day in a row against Pensacola in the double-A Southern League. Szczur is hitting .293 with two homers, 20 runs scored, 12 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 21 games.

LHP Scott DeCecco (Middle Township) is 1-3 with a 3.60 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 20 innings through four starts for the Clinton LumberKings in the Class-A Midwest League. His next start has not yet been announced.
