Matt Szczur, 27, is a 2007 Lower Cape May Regional High School graduate from Lower Township. He earned a World Series championship ring with the 2016 Cubs and was traded May 8 to the San Diego Padres.

Saturday: Szczur hit a solo home run, finishing 2 for 2 with a walk, in the Padres’ 5-3 win over the Giants. He batted eighth and played left field. His home run was a solo shot in the third inning of Giants ace Madison Bumgarner. His other hit was a bunt single in the fifth inning, also off Bumgarner.

Sunday: Szczur went 0 for 3 in a 7-1 win over the Giants. He batted eighth and played center field.

Stats: Szczur is hitting .198 (20 for 101) with three home runs, 12 runs scored and 11 RBIs in 63 games.
