Matt Szczur, 27, is a 2007 Lower Cape May Regional High School graduate from Lower Township. He earned a World Series championship ring with the 2016 Cubs and was traded May 8 to the San Diego Padres.

Monday: Szczur went 0 for 1 with a walk, was hit by a pitch, was caught stealing and threw out a runner at home in the Padres' 3-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs.

Szczur batted eighth and played center field before being removed for a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning.

Tuesday: The Padres continue their series against the Cubs at 8:05 p.m. Mike Montgomery (0-3, 2.56 ERA) is scheduled to start for Chicago. Szczur has never faced him.

Stats: Szczur is hitting .184 (14 for 76) with two home runs, nine runs scored and nine RBIs in 45 games.
