Dennis Horner, a Holy Spirit High School graduate, made his preseason debut in the Nets' 92-83 loss to the New York Knicks on Saturday in Newark.
Horner, 23, played nearly 18½ minutes, scoring four points on 2-of-3 shooting and grabbing four rebounds. He also had three assists and one turnover.
The 6-foot-9 forward signed a free-agent contract with New Jersey after spending time with the Nets' Developmental League team, the Springfield Armor. He played three games with the Armor after being drafted in the third round on Nov. 3, averaging more than 15 points and seven rebounds.
The Knicks got 17 points from Carmelo Anthony and 16 from rookie Iman Shumpert in the season opener for both teams.
Renaldo Balkman led New York with 20 points and new acquisition Tyson Chander had four points, four rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocks.
The teams meet up again in New York on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the final preseason game.
