WASHINGTON — Two minority owners of the Philadelphia 76ers have purchased a stake in D.C. United of Major League Soccer.

The team announced on Tuesday that Erick Thohir and Jason Levien will partner as co-owners with Will Chang, who had been the primary owner since 2009.

Thohir is an Indonesian media mogul who serves as the vice president of the Indonesian Olympic Committee, and as its chief of mission for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Levien was a former NBA player agent and Sacramento Kings executive before he became a minority owner of the 76ers with Thohir in 2011.

CEO Kevin Payne and other front office staff will continue to run D.C. United’s the day-to-day operations.

D.C. United has won the MLS Cup a record four times — 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2004.
