The Ocean City Nor’easters men’s soccer team lost to the Jersey Express 1-0 on Wednesday night in Newark in a USL Premier Development game.
Joseph Ovenseri scored the only goal of the game for the Express in the 76th minute, and Christopher Karcz assisted.
The PDL Eastern Conference Mid Atlantic Division win puts the Express at 1-0-1. Ocean City dropped to 1-1.
Jersey Express goalie Rafael Diaz recorded the shutout with four saves. Ocean City keeper John McCarthy had five saves.
“It was a good test against a very good team,” Ocean City’s first-year coach Tim Oswald said. “We lacked a little intensity in the first half and made some changes at halftime. We had some quality chances, but they scored the goal. Max Hamilton just missed when he shot it wide, and Jonny Dolezal had a good shot and their goalie made the save. We’re disappointed, but we have to bounce back quickly and try to get three points at home on Sunday.”
The Nor’easters play their home opener against the Central Jersey Spartans at 7 p.m. Sunday at Carey Stadium in Ocean City.
