CHESTER, Pa. - Freddy Adu, Gabriel Gomez and Antoine Hoppenot scored as the Philadelphia Union beat Toronto FC 3-0 on Sunday.
The Union dominated from start to finish, putting pressure on Toronto's defense while winning consecutive MLS games for the first time since mid-April.
Since John Hackworth became interim coach on June 13, the Union have scored 10 goals in five MLS games. Prior to that, they had one of the more anemic offenses in the league with eight goals in 11 games.
"I think we have good attacking players," Hackworth said. "They feel like they have some freedom to go to the goal and we encourage them to go to the goal, and fortunately for us, they're finding the back of the net and that means everything.
"We're doing it with a lot of different guys on our attack, and we're very mobile on our attack. That makes it hard for opposing defenses. The end of the day, it's players making plays."
Gomez beat goalkeeper Milos Kocic to the far right corner of the net in the 34th minute, on an assist from Jack McInerney. Philadelphia struck again two minutes later when Adu went flying down the left side and took a shot that also caught the far right of the net.
Hoppenot scored in the 78th minute, and Union defender Sheanon Williams preserved the shutout with a goal-line header in the 82nd minute.
