HALF MOON BAY, Calif. — With a Pacific storm pushing big waves
toward California, organizers of a contest at one of the
world's most perilous surfing spots have told competitors to
grab their boards and get ready.
ORLANDO, Fla. - Dean Randazzo has spent much of his life
traveling the world, qualifying for and surfing the elite
Association of Surfing Professionals tour. And he did it with
little support from the industry - rarely enjoying the benefits of
being a pro surfer.
SEASIDE HEIGHTS - Hurricane Sandy forced the cancellation of the
Smith Optics Grudge Match in 2012. But the invitation-only contest
featuring the state's best surfers was back Monday in unruly 4-
to 5-foot surf north of Casino Pier.
SEA ISLE CITY — Cassidy McClain was shivering and her teeth were chattering as she awaited the start of the finals at the Open Shortboard of the Eastern Surfing Association’s Northeast Regional on Sunday.
Each year at the Eastern Surfing Association’s Northeast Regionals — the qualifying event for the Eastern Surfing Championships — athletes from the Southern New Jersey District wind up finishing in the top slots.
Dean Randazzo needed to be convinced to surf in a Masters event a few years back. It was a tough decision as he was still surfing well in pro events and wasn't ready to classify himself as an elder statesman.

Six straight days of northeast wind and ocean chop made for a tricky weekend for local beach patrols. But it also made for a grueling day for the endurance athletes who paddled the 22 miles around Absecon Island on Saturday for the fifth annual Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation Paddle For A Cause.
OCEAN CITY - Parents and friends of about 130 high school
surfers gathered at the 3rd Street beach in winter overcoats and
hooded sweatshirts to watch the National Scholastic Surfing
Association Northeast Conference Championships on Sunday with
temperatures ranging from the 30s to the low 50s.
Sophomore midfielder Jackie DeLong scored the game-winning goal
22 seconds into the first overtime as Wildwood Catholic High School
beat Sacred Heart 1-0 in a Cape-Atlantic League National Conference
girls soccer game Thursday.
About 300 surfers and community supporters are expected to
gather Sept. 10 at the Decatur Avenue Beach in Margate for the 11th
annual Surf for a Cause surf and beach fest, presented by the Dean
Randazzo Cancer Foundation.
