Several local surfers had a rough first day at the Foster's Belmar Pro.

With a heat score of 10.67, Ben Graeff, of Longport, was the only local to advance out of the Round of 48. He also recorded the highest single wave score of the day for a New Jersey native with a 7.

The contest continues Saturday.

Jamie Moran and Rob Kelly, both of Ocean City, Ian Bloch of Margate and Michael Ciaramella of Stone Harbor were all eliminated.

The biggest competitive surfing weekend in New Jersey continues today with the start of the Fins Pro Junior competition. Bloch and Ciaramella will compete in conditions that are forecasted to be good thanks to Hurricane Maria far out in the Atlantic Ocean.
