Mainland's club ice hockey team beats St. Joseph in playoff game

Sean Bowman and Tim Vant each scored two goals as the Mainland Mustangs club ice hockey team defeated St. Joseph 6-5 in a South Jersey High School Hockey League playoff game Monday night at Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees.

Bowman also had two assists for the Mustangs, who were seeded third. Nick Frangos had two goals and one assist for St. Joseph, which was the No. 2 seed.

Mainland advanced to the final against top-seeded Riverfront, a Delran-based team that has not yet lost in the double-elimination Tier 3 playoffs.

Mainland must win twice, with the first game at 8 p.m. Friday at The Igloo Ice Rink in Mount Laurel.

Mainland 2 1 3-6

St. Joseph 2 1 2-5

Goals-Bowman (2), Vant (2), Jo. Handshaw, Ja. Handshaw M; Frangos (2), Petrongolo, Stanton, Ridarelli SJ.

Goalies-Triboleth (40 saves) M; Altbaum (27 saves) SJ.

Records-Mainland 11-9, St. Joseph 12-8.
