The Margate Beach Patrol crew of Chris Graves and Bob Bechtel won the sixth annual Hammer Row in 38 minutes, 55 seconds on Thursday in the Seaview Harbor section of Egg Harbor Township.
The alumni crew of Carl Smallwood Jr. (Margate) and B.J. Fox (Longport) finished second in the four-mile race in 39:00. Smallwood won the first five Hammer Rows, the first three of which were with Graves. Margate has won the race each year. Third was Margate's Ashton Funk and Joe Palmer in 39:12.
Upper Township's Cara Thomas and Beth Desmond were 43rd in 49:31 and the first of two women's crews. Longport alumnus Pat Armstrong and wife Krista Armstrong were 32rd overall in 45:54 and the first of five mixed crews.
Carl Tripician, a Margate alumnus, won the paddleboard race in 47:00, and Longport's Dan Gordon was second in 55:05.
