CHESTER, Pa. - Jack McInerney scored in the 76th minute to give the Philadelphia Union a 1-0 victory over the New England Revolution in cold and wet conditions Saturday.

McInerney also scored the winning goal in the Union's last game, a 2-1 victory Sunday at Colorado.

The Union improved to 2-1-0 and are 5-0-3 in against the Revolution in franchise history.

"I don't know what it is with (the Revolution), but I know I get in good spots against them," said McInerney in quotes provided by the team. "They sit high up (on defense) and I like it because I can get balls played back in behind them in the box that amount to good goals."

The game was very physical as four yellow cards - two for each team - were issued and 28 fouls where whistled in total.

"When you get weather like that, with the rain and the hail before the game, it kind of throws (traditional) soccer out of the window," said Union defender Sheanon Williams. "We tried as best as we could to get it down and play. Sometimes, that failed and that's when the battles happened. I think we stepped up well to the occasion today and we did what we needed to do."

McInerney's goal came off a corner kick by Sebastien Le Toux. McInerney initially headed the ball from Le Toux, which was saved by Revolution goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth. But McInerney was able to hit home the deflection for his second goal of the season.

New England was coming off a 1-0 victory at Chicago in its opener. Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis sat out Saturday because of a groin injury and was replaced by Bobby Shuttleworth.

The Union will have next week off from Major League Soccer play, but will host Mexican League club Pumas UNAM in an exhibition game 5 p.m. Saturday. Their next MLS game is on the road March 30 vs. the New York Red Bulls in Harrison.
