The Rutgers-Newark University men’s basketball team beat visiting Richard Stockton College 73-63 on Saturday in a game for first place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.

The Scarlet Raiders rallied in the final seven minutes to win it.

Rutgers-Newark hit 10-of-16 3-point attempts while the Ospreys made only 4-for-22.

The Scarlet Raiders improved to 15-5 overall and 11-2 in the conference. Stockton is 15-4 overall and 9-3 NJAC.

Rameel Johnson led Stockton with 22 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Rich Suhr added 15 points, and Anthony Woodard had six points, three blocks and four rebounds. Chris Foreman hit 5-of-6 3-point attempts and topped Rutgers-Newark with 21 points. Christian Garcia had 16 points.

Stockton led 53-52 with 6 minutes, 58 seconds remaining, but the home team scored seven points in the next 45 seconds and held the lead the rest of the way. Suhr hit a 3-pointer with 2:18 left which cut the lead to 66-63, but the Ospreys did not score again.

Stockton hosts Kean University on Monday at 8 p.m.
