The 10th annual Ocean City Beach Patrol Women's Invitational will be held at 6:30 p.m. today at the 34th Street beach in Ocean City.
The leading female athletes of the South Jersey Lifeguard Chiefs Association will compete in five races, all of which are close to the shoreline.
The races are the sprint doubles row, the box-swim, the row-swim, the box-paddleboard race, and the surf dash.
In the row-swim, a doubles crew rows out to the flag about 500 feet from shore, and one guard swims back to the finish line on the beach.
The box-swim and box-paddleboard race both have box courses in the ocean, and will have a short run at the beginning and end.
Ocean City is the two-time defending team champion.
