Somers Point golfer Harry Scott, 78, is trying to play 50 courses in 50 states in 50 days. The Press has been checking in with Scott for daily updates on his ongoing odyssey.

Day: 40

City: La Veta, Colo.

Course played (par and yardage): Grandote Peaks Golf Club (6,315 yards, par 72)

About the course: The privately owned public course was designed by Tom Weiskopf. Scott said it had a great layout with snow-capped mountains surrounding the course. The course was in very good condition, but streams, ponds and changing elevations made it very challenging.

Playing partner: Scott played with a surgeon and a medical center director he met at the course.

Place he started and finished for the day: Scott left Walsenburg, Colo., on Saturday morning and ended up in Taos, N.M.

Scott's highlights: Scott just missed a par on the 449-yard par-4 fifth hole. A difficult course, winds of more than 35 miles per hour and 90-degree weather led to a tough round.

What's next: Scott will play at Angel Fire Resort Golf Course in Angel Fire, N.M. today before heading to Flagstaff, Ariz., where he will play Monday.
