(One in a series of profiles about a new player who could have a major impact for the Eagles entering training camp)
Player: Connor Barwin
Height: 6-feet-4; Weight: 264 pounds; Age: 26
Position: outside linebacker
How acquired: Free agency (from Houston)
The skinny: The Eagles signed Barwin to a six-year, $36 million contract in hopes that he will be able to provide some leadership and a pass rush in their new 3-4 defensive scheme. Barwin played in that system the last two seasons with the Texans. He was at his best in 2011 when he ranked third in the AFC with 11½ sacks. He notched a career-best 65 tackles last season, but registered just three sacks. He is viewed as the most reliable of the Eagles' new outside linebackers. Former defensive ends Trent Cole and Brandon Graham will be trying to make the transition to that position.
Tomorrow: Quarterback Matt Barkley
