One in a series of profiles about a new player who could have a major impact for the Eagles entering training camp.

Player: Matt Barkley

Height: 6-feet-2; Weight: 227 pounds; Age: 22

Position: Quarterback

How acquired: Draft pick (fourth round)

The skinny: Barkley would have been a top-10 pick if he had entered the draft after his junior season in 2012. A shoulder injury and concerns about his arm strength caused him to drop to the fourth round this year. Eagles coach Chip Kelly saw Barkley play enough against his University of Oregon team to believe he has intangibles that outweigh any physical concerns. Barkley performed well in the offseason minicamps and OTAs (organized team activities), demonstrating a comfort zone with the offense and outstanding leadership. Don’t be surprised to see him push for the starting job at some point this season.
