Free agent outfielder Roger Bernadina has signed with the Phillies, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today.

Bernadina, 29, batted .178 with two home runs and six RBI in 85 games with the Washington Nationals this year. He made 14 starts in left field, 12 in right field and three in center field.

Last season, Bernadina, a left-handed hitter, hit .291 with a .372 on-base percentage in 129 games for Washington.

At Citizens Bank Park, he is a career .309 hitter in 22 games.

To make room for Bernadina on the 25-man roster, the Phillies optioned Michael Martinez to triple-A Lehigh Valley.
