Dave Adams Jr., of Riverside in Burlington County, joined The Press 200 Club’s all-time bowling list with an 858 series on Jan. 14 in the Coverdale Classic League at Glassboro Bowl & Recreation. Adams was nearly perfect, with 34 strikes out of a possible 36.

Adams’ series takes over the No. 1 spot on the men’s Top 10 list.

Bridgeton’s Heather Ripa rolled a 702 series at Campani’s Legacy Lanes in Deerfield Township on Thursday and led the 200 Club women for the fifth individual week this season. Competing in the South Jersey Industrial League, Ripa had games of 222, 244 and 236.

Adams, 35, scored games of 300, 279 and 279 in the 858, and tied for fifth place with Hammonton’s Bruce Comun-ale on the 200 Club’s all-time list.

Comunale’s series, which was at DiDonato’s in Hammonton in March of 2006, had the same score of 300, 279 and 279.

Adams became a league bowler when he was 5 years old, and had a previous high series of 857. He has 20 300s and 10 800s.

“It was fun,” said Adams of the 858. “Halfway through the second game I kind of knew it would be a big number. The 857 was about 10 years ago, and I actually never thought I’d beat it. I’ve shot some low 800s since then. After my (second) spare I knew I had to strike out to get it. I always keep score.”

Adams began with 20 straight strikes, and then left up the 4 pin before a spare in the ninth frame of game two. He continued to get strikes until the eighth frame of the third game. He left a 7 pin in the eighth and got a spare, and ended with four strikes.

The Coverdale Classic League was the top league at Loyle Lanes in Vineland before it burned down in January of 2010. The league moved to the Glassboro alley, and the Coverdale Classic League remains a part of the 200 Club.

Adams joined the league “a couple years ago,” and bowls on a team which includes his father, Dave Adams Sr.
