Girls soccer

5 p.m. Monday

Rivals from neighboring towns meet in a key early season Cape-Atlantic League American Conference game. Hannah Daigle leads the Thunderbolts with four goals. Goalkeeper McKenzie Taylor has allowed only two goals this season. Sarah Patrignani and Alexandra Reyes have each had hat tricks.

Boys soccer

Ocean City (3-1) at Absegami (4-0-1)

4 p.m. Monday

Traditional power Ocean City takes on the defending Cape-Atlantic League American Conference champion Braves. Ocean City's Zack Sakena is off to a solid start with four goals and five assists. Noah Spear and Tom Matera have each scored three. Kelvin Siem, Sherlin Simeon and Osbert Guzman each have three goals to pace a young Absegami team.

Field hockey

Ocean City (3-0) at Mainland Regional (3-2)

4 p.m. today

Ocean City, which is off to its usual quick start, gets a good test from the Mustangs, who have lost competitive games to highly regarded Kingsway Regional (1-0) and Egg Harbor Township (3-2). Ocean City features Leah Davies, April Stein, Lauren McNally and Rachael Young. Mainland has Kailey Stangle, Angela Robbins, Vanessa Pagliei and Ashley Albright.

Cross country

The Cherokee Challenge

9 a.m. Saturday at Cherokee High School

This event marks the traditional start of the major meet season. Male and female runners compete in 2-mile races against their own class. The meet should draw close to 100 high schools. Top runners Danielle Leavitt of Lacey Township and Louis Corgliano of Hammonton are expected to compete. Corgliano won the junior race last year. Leavitt finished second in the girls junior race.
