Justyce Pollitt will go from a high school without a track to a college that is planning to build one of the top track and field facilities in the country.

Pollitt, a recent St. Augustine Prep graduate, will attend University at Albany on a partial track and field scholarship.

“This means so much to me and my family,” the 18-year-old from Voorhees, Camden Couny, said in a telephone interview Monday afternoon. “I’m glad this is happening.”

St. Augustine Prep does not have a track on its campus in Buena Vista Township. Albany is renovating its track and modeling it after the University of Oregon’s, which is one of the best facilities in the country.

Pollitt visited Albany during the spring.

“While talking to the coaches, I just felt a sense of being at home,” he said.

Pollitt finished second in the long jump at state Non-Public A meet with a leap of 21 feet, 9 inches. He won the South Jersey Non-Public A title with a jump of 20-4.5.

Pollitt said he plans to study biology and become a physical therapist or a physicians assistant.
