Taylor Thompson took a pass from Our Lady of Mercy Academy teammate Lauren Hartmann and drove to the basket to make a layup for her 1,000th career point during the first quarter of a girls basketball game against Atlantic Christian School on Thursday night.

The Villagers went on to win 62-40. Thompson, who finished the game with 1,012 career points, became the second player in OLMA history to reach the milestone. Janine Hile was the first, having ended her career with 1,215 points in 1989.

"(Thompson's) biggest strength is her versatility," coach Steve Wescott said Friday. "She can step outside and hit a jumper from the perimeter or she can drive the block and take you up to the basket with her."

Thompson, who scored a game-high 19 points and added eight rebound and seven assists, wanted to spread the credit around.

"My teammates help me in everything I've done," the senior point guard said. "The team's hard work and attitude have helped me achieve everything I have."

In the win over the Cougars, Bridget Danrea hit four 3-pointers and scored 12 points. Tori Peacock scored 11 and Ashley Ridgeway nine.

Jodi Kelley led Atlantic Christian with 14 points.
