The Absegami and Millville high school football teams take the field with plenty in common tonight.

Both are 2-1. Both are looking to boost their South Jersey Group V playoffs hope with a win.

And both feature two of the state's top running backs. Absegami has senior David Hood, who has verbally committed to Temple University and has carried 56 times for 462 yards this season.

Millville relies on junior Rob Ennis, who has rushed 59 times for 456 yards this season.

Absegami has won two straight after a season opening 48-6 loss to St. Joseph. Millville lost at St. Joe 21-14 last Saturday. Millville is No. 8 in The Press Elite 11. Linebacker Ed Shockley sparks the Millville defense. Absegami quarterback Mike Dolan has thrown for 450 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.

Holy Spirit (2-0) at Mainland Regional (1-2)

7 p.m. today (94.3 FM)

Holy Spirit is No. 1 in The Press Elite 11. The Spartans were off last week after beating rival St. Joseph 31-28 on Sept. 20. Spirit quarterback T.J. Anderson ran for two touchdowns against St. Joe. Mainland quarterback Ty Mindish has completed 32-of-66 passes for 368 yards and five touchdowns.

Atlantic City (1-1) at Oakcrest (0-3)

7 p.m. today

Atlantic City was off last week after beating Egg Harbor Township 41-12 on Sept. 20. Vikings wide receiver Isiah Graves caught five passes for 99 yards and a touchdown in the win over EHT. Oakcrest running back Terence Smith has scored five touchdowns.

St. Joseph (2-1) at Egg Harbor Township (1-2)

7 p.m. today

St. Joe is No. 6 in The Press Elite 11 and comes off a 21-14 win over Millville. EHT has lost two straight. St. Joe quarterback Salaam Horne averages 9.5 yards per rush and also has returned two punts for touchdowns. Horne has also thrown for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

Cedar Creek (2-1) at Buena Regional (3-0)

7 p.m. today

This game was originally scheduled to be played Saturday afternoon at Cedar Creek but was moved to tonight at Buena Regional because of the SAT on Saturday morning. Chiefs quarterback Eric Rainear has rushed for four touchdowns and thrown for two more scores. Cedar Creek wide receiver and running back Ahmir Mitchell has scored five of the Pirates' seven touchdowns this season.

Lower Cape May Reg. (0-3) at Pleasantville (0-3)

7 p.m. today

Pleasantville has lost 35 straight. The Greyhounds' last win came when they beat Lower 42-28 on Nov. 7, 2009.

Middle Township (1-2) at Vineland (1-2)

7 p.m. today

Running back Yamire McNeal ran for 197 yards and three touchdowns and also threw a touchdown pass to lead Middle to a 35-13 win over Pleasantville last Friday. Running back Daivon Seymore scored Vineland's only touchdown in last week's 42-7 loss to St. Augustine Prep.

Ocean City (0-3) at St. Augustine Prep (3-0)

St. Augustine averages 47.7 points per game. Hermits running back Lamont Harris leads the CAL in rushing with 584 yards. Quarterback Jose Tabora has thrown eight touchdown passes - four of them to wide receiver Austin Francisco. Ocean City running back Frank Woolley has rushed 84 times for 352 yards.

Lacey Township (3-0) at Toms River South (2-1)

7 p.m. today

Lacey is No. 9 in The Press Elite 11 but has struggled on defense. The Lions beat Toms River East 45-42 last Saturday. Lacey quarterback Tom Kelly has thrown for 777 yards and 10 touchdowns. Lions wide receiver Christian Tutela averages 28.13 yards per catch.

Brick Township (2-1) at Southern Regional (2-1)

7 p.m. today

The winner gets a boost toward the playoffs and stays in contention for an A South division title. Southern quarterback Logan Sheehan has thrown five touchdown passes. Rams wide receiver Vince Colecchia has caught eight passes for 154 yards and three touchdowns.

Jackson Liberty (1-2) at Barnegat (3-0)

7 p.m. today

This is the first of three straight home games for Barnegat. The Bengals have relied this season on the running of A.J. Opre, who has rushed 66 times for 447 yards and eight touchdowns. Linebacker Greg Moran leads the Barnegat defense with 21 tackles and 11/2 sacks.

Pinelands Regional (1-2) at Central Reg. (2-1)

Pinelands comes off a 33-0 loss to Lakewood.

Cumberland Regional (1-2) at Clearview Regional (2-1)

Cumberland has dropped two straight. The Colts have struggled on offense with a combined six points in their last two games.

The is the third of three straight home games for Wildwood. The Warriors come off a 56-14 loss to Pennsville. Running back Dave Flanders scored both Wildwood touchdowns.
