This weekend and next will determine the playoff future of the Atlantic City and Absegami high school football teams.

Both teams are 3-3 and in contention for one of the final spots in the South Jersey Group V field.

Both Atlantic City and Absegami probably need to win their remaining two games to make the playoffs. But they play each other at Atlantic City on Nov. 8.

Tonight, Atlantic City plays at Mainland Regional (1-5) and Absegami (3-3) plays at Hammonton (5-1).

American Conference

Absegami (3-3) at Hammonton (5-1)

7 p.m. today

Absegami has yet to beat a team with a winning record. The Braves feature running back David Hood, who has verbally committed to Temple University and has rushed 112 times for 877 yards and nine touchdowns. Hammonton is No. 9 in The Press Elite 11. The Blue Devils have won five straight and are in position to be one of the top seeds in the South Jersey Group IV playoffs. Hammonton quarterback Jonathan Triboletti has thrown eight touchdown passes, six of them to wide receiver Alex Padovani.

Atlantic City (3-3) at Mainland Regional (1-5)

7 p.m. today (1450 AM)

Atlantic City comes off a 41-8 loss to St. Joseph. Vikings sophomore quarterback Jamir Prevard has thrown 12 touchdown passes. Mainland has lost five straight. Mustangs quarterback Ty Mindish has thrown eight touchdown passes. This is just the second meeting since 2010 between these schools. Atlantic City won 40-16 last year.

Egg Harbor Township (1-5) at Holy Spirit (6-0)

7 p.m. today (94.3 FM)

Holy Spirit is No. 1 in The Press Elite 11. The Spartans won by forfeit over Lower Cape May last Friday. Spirit hasn't played at home since Sept. 20. Spirit should be without starting quarterback T.J. Anderson (350 rushing yards and 260 passing yards), who has a bone bruise on his knee. The Spartans have allowed a touchdown or less in nine of their last 12 games dating back to last season. EHT has lost five straight, including a 42-13 defeat at Millville last Friday.

Oakcrest (1-5) at Millville (4-2)

7 p.m. today

Oakcrest was off last week after beating Mainland Regional 42-28 on Oct. 18. Oakcrest freshman quarterback Kendall Elliott has rushed for 219 yards and completed 56-of-120 passes for 787 yards and six touchdowns. Millville is No. 8 in The Press Elite 11. Thunderbolts running back Rob Ennis (102 carries for 826 yards) missed last week's 42-13 win over EHT as a precaution because of a leg injury. Ryquell Armstead stepped in and ran for 301 yards and three touchdowns.

National Conference

Buena Regional (3-4) at Pleasantville (1-5)

7 p.m. today

Buena looks to end a four-game losing streak. Chiefs running back Shaquille Scott ran for 121 yards and a touchdown in last Friday's 45-21 loss to undefeated St. Augustine Prep. Pleasantville lost to Bridgeton 54-0 last week.

Bridgeton (5-2) at Middle Township (2-4)

7 p.m. today

Bridgeton needs a win to stay in contention for a first-round home game in the South Jersey Group II playoffs. Running back Stefon Bowman (86 carries for 573 yards) and linebacker Quasheem Taylor (38 tackles - nine of them for losses) lead Bridgeton. Middle has lost two straight but features talented players in quarterback Joe Durso (eight touchdown passes), running backs Yamire McNeil (725 rushing yards) and Zahir Bland and TE/LB Versage (five touchdown catches and 48 tackles on defense).

Vineland (2-4) at Cedar Creek (5-1)

Noon Saturday

Creek Creek appears headed for the South Jersey Group II playoffs. The Pirates are deep at running back with Isa Willis, J.B. Burrell and Nate Pauls. Quarterback Angel Rodridguez threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Jeremiah Atoki for Vineland's only score in last Friday's 21-7 loss to Ocean City.

Shore Conference

Jackson Mem. (4-2) at Southern Regional (3-3)

7 p.m. today

Southern needs a win to stay in contention for a South Jersey Group V playoff spot. Rams receiver Mike Gesicki has caught 23 passes for 359 yards and three touchdowns. Linebacker Mason Fazekas (five sacks) and defensive back Zac Halliday (two interceptions) spark the Southern defense. Jackson comes off a 62-44 win over Lacey Township.

Barnegat (6-0) at Lakewood (4-2)

1 p.m. Saturday

Barnegat can take control of the B South division and continue its push for a top seed in the South Jersey Group III playoffs with a win. Barnegat quarterback Cinjun Erskine has rushed for 331 yards and two touchdowns and thrown for 531 yards and eight touchdowns.

Manchester Twp. (1-5) at Pinelands Reg. (1-6)

1 p.m. Saturday

Pinelands comes off a 20-0 loss to Jackson Liberty last Friday. Quarterback Dan MacPhee sparks the Pinelands offense with 390 passing yards and 165 rushing yards. Jon Kubricki has converted on 5-of-7 field-goal attempts for the Wildcats.

Brick Township (5-2) at Lacey Township (5-2)

2:30 p.m. Saturday

Lacey has dropped two straight. A win would boost Lacey's chances of getting a first-round home game in the South Jersey Group IV playoffs. Brick is tied with Jackson Memorial for the Shore Conference A South lead. Lacey quarterback Tom Kelly has thrown for 1,272 yards and 15 touchdowns. Wide receiver Christian Tutela has 10 touchdown catches.
