The holiday high school football schedule starts tonight with two games.
Buena Regional plays at St. Augustine Prep at 7 p.m. Cumberland Regional plays at Schalick at 6 p.m.
Seven games will be played Thursday, including Atlantic City at Holy Spirit and Millville at Vineland. The holiday schedule concludes Saturday with St. Joseph playing at Hammonton. Here's a preview of tonight's games.
Buena Regional (3-6)
at St. Augustine Prep (3-6)
Why this game is special: These schools are located 10 minutes apart. Buena leads the series 12-7, but St. Augustine has won three straight, including 21-19 last year. The Hermits hold a 6-3 edge since 2001.
Buena update: Buena lost its consolation game to Deptford 20-17 on Nov. 12. The Chiefs, who relied on the run most of the season, started Sawyer Brown at quarterback in that contest. Brown completed 13-of-32 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns.
St. Augustine update: The Hermits have won two of their last three games. Running back John Barillo has emerged as one of the Cape-Atlantic League's best this season with 14 touchdowns and 848 rushing yards.
Cumberland Regional (6-3)
at Schalick (6-3)
Why this game is special: These teams first met in 2002. Schalick holds a 5-3 edge and beat Cumberland 21-0 last year. This rivalry has a neighborhood feel as Cumberland in Seabrook and Schalick in Pittsgrove Township are a short drive of each other.
Cumberland update: The Colts have won four straight. Running back Charles Wynder has rushed 167 times for 1,226 yards. Lineacker Troy Eubanks leads the defense with 108 tackles.
Schalick update: The Cougars qualified for the South Jersey Group I playoffs and lost to Paulsboro 21-7 in the first round on Nov. 13.
