Two Richard Stockton College women's track and field athletes, Jassina Surles and Jessica Helmstetter, received New Jersey Athletic Conference weekly awards Monday.

Surles, a sophomore, was named the NJAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, and Helmstetter, a freshman, was chosen the NJAC Women's Rookie of the Week.

Surles won the women's long jump at the season-opening Osprey Invita-tional at Stockton on Saturday, topping a field of 16 with a school-record jump of 5.58 meters. That effort was the second-best jump in NCAA Division III over the weekend.

She also placed sixth among 15 in the 100-meter dash in 13.52 seconds, and 10th among 20 in the 200-meter dash in 28.47.

Helmstetter finished third among 19 in the women's javelin with a throw of 39.85 meters. The effort was the 10th best in Division III for the weekend.

Helmstetter was the state Group II girls javelin champion as a senior at Raritan High School, and finished second at the Meet of Champions.
