The Philadelphia Phillies are coming to the beach - sort of.

Fans will be able to watch the Phillies play the New York Mets on the Arkansas Avenue beach in Atlantic City today. The game starts at 1:05 p.m. but the festivities begin at noon.

The Phillie Phanatic will be on hand as well as Phillies ball girls. Amy Fadool of Comcast SportsNet will host the event. The screen is 17 feet wide by 27 feet high.

There will be contests, such as best-dressed for fans. There will also be giveaways and activities for children.

The event is sponsored by the Phillies, Comcast SportsNet and the Atlantic City Alliance. A similar event was planned for last year but was canceled because of beach dredging.

"We're really looking forward to bringing the Phillies to the beach and kicking off Labor Day weekend," said Maureen Quilter, senior director of communications for Comcast SportsNet. "We encourage everybody to come down dressed in their Phillies best and bring their beach chairs and their beach blankets. It looks like beautiful weather. We're looking forward to a good crowd."
