The West Cumberland softball team finished pool play unbeaten at the Senior League World Series with a 3-1 win over Northwest/Mile High Little League of Butte, Mont., on Thursday.

Emily Pettit put West Cumberland, the East region representative, up 1-0. Lindsay Dwyer hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning that also scored Kodi Pollock.

Brooke Coleman, the winning pitcher, struck out the side in the second inning.

Northwest/Mile High, the West representative, scored one run in the bottom of the fifth.

West Cumberland advances to the semifinals at 8 p.m. today against the loser of the Latin America vs. South Bend, Ind., game that took place late Thursday night. The winner of that game will play for the World Series title at noon Saturday.

Junior League softball: West Cumberland fell just shy of an appearance in the Junior League Softball World Series. It lost to West Haven, Conn., 4-2 in the East Regional championship game Thursday morning.

West Cumberland finished the tournament with a 3-3 record.

West Haven advanced to the World Series in Kirkland, Wash., which begins Sunday.
