Matt Welles won two races and was runner-up in another to lead the Wildwood Crest Beach Patrol to its second straight team title at the ninth annual Tri-Wood Lifeguard Rowing Championships on Thursday.

At the Lincoln Avenue beach in Wildwood, Wildwood Crest won four of the six races and scored 22 team points. Wildwood was second with eight points and Sea Isle City third with six points.

The Tri-Wood is for lifeguards with four years or less on the beach patrol.

Welles teamed with Scott Wandell to win the long doubles row by more than a minute in 11 minutes, 33 seconds.

Welles returned later to win the singles row for non-rookies in 7:17.

Crest's Bob Kalinowski and Garret Moore won the sprint doubles row for non-rookies in 6:52, edging teammates Justin Fritz and Wandell by two seconds.

Brendan Cunningham and Mary Chew won the mixed doubles row in 6:32.

Wildwood's Liam Bradley and Stephen Grasso took the sprint-doubles row for rookies by one second in 7:21.

Sea Isle's Derek Webber won the singles row for rookies by 24 seconds in 7:24.

Gabe Keown was second in 7:48.
