The Atlantic Shore Babe Ruth 15-year-old baseball team beat Mercer East 7-0 Saturday to win the Southern New Jersey State Championship in Hightstown.
Atlantic Shore advanced to the Mid-Atlantic Regionals, which will be held at Surf Stadium in Atlantic City starting Thursday.
Winning pitcher Nick Droboniku went the distance and allowed three hits while striking out five. Atlantic Shore, called the Devils, batted around in the second inning, scoring five runs.
Atlantic Shore had three other wins in the tournament, beating Northern Burlington 8-2, Nottingham 2-1 and Mercer East 5-0.
Stephen Myers and Zach Zellers had two hits apiece against Northern Burlington.
Winning pitcher Zach Altieri went six innings and gave up two hits, with eight strikeouts.
Chris Sieg hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Nottingham.
Kyle Gerace scored twice against Mercer East. Pitcher Kyler Pikus went five innings and gave up two hitswhile striking out five.
Big League softball
District 3/West Cumberland 12, Connecticut 1: The win was in the Eastern Regional Tournament on Saturday in Waldorf, Md. Cumberland played Pennsylvania on Saturday night, but the game ended too late. District 3/West Cumberland beat Delaware 9-8 on Friday.
Junior League softball
District 3/West Cumberland 12, Lincroft 0: The win was in the State Junior League Tournament on Saturday in Rutherford.
Cumberland beat Rutherford 15-0 on Friday.
The final is Monday, and Cumberland is in the winners bracket.
Senior League baseball
Buena 10, North Bergen 7: Buena's Evan Rodgers had two hits and two RBIs, while Lenny Coulter added a two-run double, and George DiBiase and C.J. Middleton each scored two runs.
Kris Morgenweck was the winning pitcher, and reliever Andrew Cartier retired the last batter in the seventh inning to get the save.
