The Northfield Little League won its first game of the 11-12-year-old softball state championship on Saturday, beating Little Ferry/South Hackensack 3-2 in Jackson Township.

Winning pitcher Gillian McCarthy scattered two hits in the six-inning game with 16 strikeouts and four walks.

Mackenzie Brennan, Brianna Baretta and Amanda Kinkler each had two hits.

Gabby Monzo, Shannon Bennett and Lauren Toner all had singles.

Northfield (District 16 and Section 4 champs) plays two-time defending state champ Robbinsville at 11 a.m. today in Jackson in the winner's bracket final.

Northfield 2, Pitman 0: Winning pitcher Zoe Graziotto threw a complete game with seven strikeouts as Northfield won the Senior League game in Franklinville.

Ashlee Moran went 2-for-3, Lindsey Boken 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, Maddie McGlynn 1-for-3 with a run and Kathryn Hutton tripled.

Northfield advances to the winner's bracket final on Monday at 6 p.m. in Franklinville.

Babe Ruth District 3 13U baseball

Atlantic Shore won the Under-13 District 3 title this week with a 6-1 record in the tournament in Millville.

The Devils beat Washington Township twice on Thursday to clinch a spot in the Southern New Jersey State Tournament in West-Windsor Plainsboro starting Saturday.

Anthony Pikus went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs in a 10-5 Game 1 win. Matt Rivera went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Andrew Gallagher was the winning pitcher in relief of Travis Stoll.

Rivera was the winning pitcher in the second game, giving up three runs in five innings in a 10-4 win.

Isaac Robertson went 3-for-4 with two runs and Gallagher had two hits and two runs.
