Northfield defeated Hammonton 6-2 on Tuesday in a District 16 11-12 softball game in Middle Township to force a championship rematch between the two teams. Northfield, out of the losers bracket, and Hammonton meet for the District 16 title at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Middle Township.
Northfield's Julianna Capasso singled in two runs with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break a 2-2 tie. Teammate Brianna Barretta hit a two-run triple in the second inning, and Amanda Kinkler was 2-for-2, including a two-run single in the fifth inning. Winning pitcher Gillian McCarthy went the six-inning distance and gave up three hits, with six strikeouts.
For Hammonton, pitcher Maddie Guyer struck out six, and at the plate singled and scored a run.
District 16 9-10
Hammonton 21, Ocean City 0, 4 innings: Winning pitcher Ryan Adams threw a one-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks. D.J. Adamucci was 3-for-4 with four runs and three RBIs, while Brett Longo went 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs, and Joey McIntosh was 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs.
For host Ocean City, Tyler Greene singled in the first inning.
District 16 11-12
Absecon 4, Linwood 1: Absecon's A.J. Campbell pitched 5 innings and gave up four hits. At the plate Campbell had two doubles. Tony Santamaria had a double and a single for the winners, while Brandon Soltys added two hits, and Kyle Bronco hit a two-run double.
For Linwood, Jack Pettit had a single and a double.
Absecon plays Margate at 5:30 p.m. today in Margate.
Margate 10, Greater Wildwood 2: Four Margate pitchers, Wyatt Stetzer, Nick West, Jake Lamonaca and Brian Walsh, combined for 12 strikeouts. Lamonaca was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and J.J. Spotts was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
For Greater Wildwood, Tyler Tomlin went 2-for-3 with a triple, a run and an RBI.
Hammonton 8, Ventnor 2: Winning pitcher Giancarlo Palmieri went the six-inning distance and struck out seven. Teammate Frank Torrissi was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Also for Hammonton, Sean Falcone was 1-for-2 with three RBIs, and Kyle Cantz was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Hammonton plays Northfield at 7 p.m. today in Northfield.
Middle Township 10, Cape May County 3: Winning pitcher Jake Cooper went four innings and struck out five. Garrett DiPalantino and Sean Dougherty each pitched an inning of relief. Cooper had two hits. Drew Ludman had two hits, Garrett DiPalantino hit a three-run homer in the first inning.
Middle Township plays Lower Cape May at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lower.
