Youth baseball and softball roundup: Somers Point softball wins in District 16

Nicole Pancari hit a fourth-inning grand slam as Somers Point beat Wildwood 12-2 in a District 16 Little League 11-12-year-old softball game Saturday.

Shannon Bennett struck out eight and Lily Kern went 4-for-4 for Somers Point.

Noelle Johnson scored both of Wildwood's runs. Danielle Deritis struck out four.

Hammonton 11, Northfield 1: Winning pitcher Nicole Vaccarella went four innings and allowed four hits as the game was shortened to four innings due to the 10-run rule. Vaccarella had two hits, and teammates Gianna Leo, Jac Ford, Victoria Massey and Sean Thomas scored two runs each. Ford made a diving catch and turned it into a double play. Northfield's Bailey Arena doubled and singled.

Hammonton plays Wednesday in Northfield against the winner of Monday's game between Northfield and Somers Point.

Wildwood 10, Upper Township 7 (from Thursday): Patrice Cafiero struck out five and Rosealia Daddi went 3-for-3 with two singles for Wildwood.

Courtney Schwartz went 3-for-3 for Upper. Dakota Hitchner struck out seven.

District 3 9-10 baseball

North Vineland 16, Penns Grove 1: The game was shortened to four innings on the 10-run rule.

South Vineland 6, Buena 4: Details were unavailable.

Salem 6, North/West Cumberland 3: Details were unavailable.

District 16 9-10 baseball

Margate 10, Hammonton 0: Winning pitcher Jaden Millstein went two innings and combined with reliever Ted Grimley on a one-hitter in a game called after four innings on the 10-run rule.

Millstein struck out four and Grimley two. J.J. Spotts went 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs for host Margate, and Henry Rovillard went 2-for-3. Jake Lamonaca had a hit and three RBIs and Grimley added a hit and two RBIs.

Margate will play an opponent to be determined at 7 p.m. Monday in Hammonton.

Northfield 21, Ventnor 2: Spencer Albequerque, Kevin Foreman and C.J. Brown combined on a two-hitter for defending state champion Northfield in a game shortened to four innings on the 10-run rule.

Foreman and Brown had three hits apiece and combined to score eight runs. Ava Zanaris had two hits and three runs. Albequerque had five RBIs. For Ventnor, Jake Cahill had a hit and an RBI.

Northfield plays at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Ocean City against an opponent to be determined.

Cape May County 12, Ocean City 3: Andrew Kapp was the winning pitcher, going three innings in the game, which was continued after Friday’s rain halted the game in the third inning.

Sammy Price worked the final inning of relief for Cape May County. Karl Giulin had three hits and two runs for the winners, Sammy Lynch had three hits and three RBIs, and Matt Herron had two hits and two runs.

Cape May County will play host Somers Point at 7 p.m. today.

Linwood 6, Lower Cape May 3: Details were unavailable.

Cal Ripken 11-U District 3 baseball

Galloway Township 11, Lindenwold 7: Evan Taylor was the winning pitcher and went 2-for-4 with a double.

Ryan Hillesheim pitched in relief for Galloway and also doubled. Jared Goldin went 2-for-3.
