The Ventnor 11-12 baseball team beat Brigantine 13-1 in a District 16 game on Friday in Ocean City. Winning pitcher Alvaro Lora went four innings, allowed one hit and struck out five. Ventnor reliever Joe Persiano pitched the fifth inning and Colin Nolan worked the sixth.
Ventnor’s Frank Curtin had three hits, including a grand slam in the second inning. Teammate Jake Malfara had three hits, two runs and two RBIs, and Connor Campbell had three hits.
Ventnor plays the winner of the Margate-Lower Cape May game at 7 p.m. Sunday in Middle Township.
Linwood 12, Middle Township 1, 4 innings: Jack Petitt had two home runs and a double, and teammate John Sarkos added a homer for Linwood. Hunter Rich pitched four innings and struck out six in the game, which was at Lower Cape May. John Paytas and Jesse Stokes each had two hits for the winners. Carson Haas had an RBI single for Middle Township.
Linwood plays the Somers Point-Hammonton winner on Sunday in Absecon.
Ocean City 23, Absecon 0, four innings: Victor Mahar hit a three-run homer in the game, which was in Brigantine. Cole Vanderslice added a solo homer. Sam Olivo and Jesse Schmeizer each went 4-for-4 and Cole Markey was 3-for-3. Ocean City pitcher Danny Nunan, Vanderslice and Gannon Brady combined on a one-hitter.
Hammonton 10, Somers Point 0, 4 innings: Winning pitcher Frank Torrissi struck out six in four innings. Torrissi went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer. Dalton Scola went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Chris Torres was 1-for-1 with a walk and three runs, and Anthony Sarao was 2-for-3 with two doubles.
District 16 9-10 softball
Northfield 19, Greater Wildwood 11: Northfield pitcher Jessica Ingram went the distance and struck out six in the game, which was at Birch Grove Park in Northfield. Ava Zavaras went 4-for-5 for the winners.
Greater Wildwood pitcher Brinn McDowell went the distance and struck out six.
Northfield will play Hammonton in the second round today.

Linwood 13, Greater Wildwood 2: Linwood was led by pitchers Hunter Rich, Jack Sarkos and Connor Neiderer in the game, which was in Absecon. Linwood had 14 hits, including two each by Jack Petitt, Sarkos, Rich and John Paytas. Teammates Duncan Scandin, Jesse Stokes and Conor Ogborn each had RBI hits. Greater Wildwood’s Tyler Tomlin had an RBI single.
