Brianna Barretta walked and scored on an RBI groundout by Amanda Kinkler in the first inning to guide Northfield over Harrison Township 1-0 in the opening game of the Section 4 11-12 softball tournament.

The game was shortened by rain after four innings. Gillian McCarthy pitched all four innings without allowing a hit and striking out six. Northfield faces Monroe Township today at 6 p.m. at Cherry Hill Atlantic Little League fields.

District 3 16U baseball

Buena leads Woodstown 1-0 after an inning and a half in a game that was suspended due to rain and lightning Tuesday. Dom Lopez had an RBI double scoring Jordan Ellis to give Buena the lead. The game will resume Saturday.

District 16 11-12 baseball

Ocean City 4, Northfield 3: Cole Vanderslice hit two home runs and all four RBIs for Ocean City in a battle of unbeatens in the winner's bracket. Danny Nunan allowed one hit in five innings. Sam Alivo and Cole Markley each doubled.

Northfield threatened in the final inning with two runs and the bases loaded before Ocean City recorded the final out. Ocean City moves on to the District 16 finals next Tuesday.

District 16 14U baseball

Lower Cape May 15, Middle Township 5: Ian Alexander was the winning pitcher with three strikeouts. At the plate, Alexander was 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Joe Babore was 2-for-3 and drove in a run, while Chris Rivera added two hits and two RBIs. Mike DiCave chipped in with a sacrifice fly and an RBI single.

Austin Harris was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Garryn Whittington had an RBI single. Reliever Ryan Hill registered a strikeout. Lower Cape May plays Hammonton today at 7 p.m.
