The Boardwalk Basketball Classic in Wildwood is set to align itself with the nation’s most famous high school basketball coach — Bob Hurley of St. Anthony of Jersey City.

St. Anthony boys basketball team will play in this year’s Classic. The Friars will meet Camden on Sunday, Dec. 30 at 8:15 p.m. at the Wildwoods Convention Center in a contest billed as a Bob Hurley Elite Showcase game.

Classic officials and Hurley, who was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010, are scheduled to hold a news conference Friday at the convention center to discuss Hurley’s involvement with the tournament. The Classic plans to continue showcase games named after Hurley. The Friars have won back-to-back Tournament of Champions. They have won 65 straight games.

The Classic features as many as 70 boys and girls teams playing for titles in several brackets. The nonprofit event raises funds for college scholarships for Wildwood and Wildwood Catholic students. Nearly $300,000 has been raised since it began in 1998. The event always highlights the holiday basketball season.
