Thanksgiving day high school football wrapup

Eight local teams played Thanksgiving rivalry games earlier today. Here's a quick summary of each of the games:

Millville 23, Vineland 21: The Thunderbolts come back from a 21-7 fourth quarter deficit to beat the Fighting Clan in a rivalry game that dates back to 1893. Millville won the game after tackling Vineland's punter in the end zone for a safety.

Absegami 14, Oakcrest 6: Braves running backs David Hood and Ben Martin each scored a touchdown and went over the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season in the area's only intra-district rivalry.

Schalick 21, Cumberland Regional 0: Schalick's Jon Goldsboro ran for two first-quarter touchdowns to lead the Cougars over the Colts. Schalick upped its series lead to 5-3 in the rivalry that began in 2002. Colts junior running back Charles Clark finished with 10 rushes for 30 yards.

Ocean City 30, Pleasantville 12: Red Raiders quarterback Chris Curran threw two touchdown passes to wide receiver Pat Kimball and also kicked three field goals and two extra points to lead Ocean City to the win. It was Ocean City's third straight win over the Greyhounds on Thanksgiving. The Red Raiders lead the series 43-40-6.

Holy Spirit 27, Atlantic City 6: The Spartans easily defeated the Vikings in Atlantic County's oldest Thanksgivind Day rivalry. Holy Spirit sophomore running back Donta Pollock rushed for 229 yards on 38 carries and scored three touchdowns. Atlantic City its only touchdown on a 36-yard run by quarterback Matt Ireland.

Middle Township 31, Lower Cape May Regional 21: Panthers wide receiver Chris Cooper caught three passes for 159 yards and three touchdowns in the Anchor Bowl. Lower Cape May was led by junior running back Chris Alicea, who had 140 yards on 24 carries.

Southern Regional 40, Barnegat 6: Southern's Nick Tampone returned an interception for a touchdown in the first half as the Rams poured it on in the second half with 33 additional points.

Egg Harbor Township 25, Mainland Regional 7: The Eagles' undefeated season continued as quarterback Scott Miller threw two touchdown passes and Stephan Thomas ran for two more. Egg Harbor Township beat Mainland for the first time since 2003. The Mustangs lead the overall series 16-10-1.
