Atlantic City ends a long season with rivalry game against Holy Spirit

Why this game is special: This is Atlantic County's oldest rivalry. The teams first met in 1926. Many of the players come from the same towns. Atlantic City leads the series, but Spirit has won four straight and five of the last six. Holy Spirit won 28-22 last season.The winner gets the Boyd-Marczyk Trophy. The trophy is named after deceased coaches John Boyd of Atlantic City and Stan Marczyk of Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit update: The Spartans come off a 45-19 loss to St. Joseph Montvale (Bergen County) in the state Non-Public III semifinals last Saturday. Spirit features a strong running game with Nigel Jones (1,294 yards) and Donta Pollock, who rushed for 209 yards against St. Joseph. Quarterback Joe Callahan has thrown for 1,698 yards and 10 touchdowns. Linebacker Anthony Sarao and defensive back Quay Williams lead a defense that is adept at forcing turnovers.

Atlantic City update: This has been a long season for the Vikings. Their only win was an 18-7 victory over Vineland on Oct. 30. But Atlantic City can wipe away a season of disappointment with an upset of Holy Spirit today.
