From Press staff reports

Chuck Donohue Sr. became Southern Regional High School's winningest football coach Sunday as the Rams defeated Colts Neck 26-14 in a Shore Conference game.

Donohue, who has 66 career wins, passed Ron Emertt.

"I feel very fortunate to be the coach at Southern," Donohue said. "We get tremendous support and our expectations are to be successful every week.

"Other than that, Ron Emertt did a great job for 15 or 16 years, and now we've had an opportunity to win some games in the time we've been here. That's all."

Donohue said that with division play arriving next week, the possible wins in the near future are more important than the previous 66.

"I don't think as a coach you should be looking at those kind of things," said Donohue, in his 13th season at Southern. "They are just milestones. I'm not really into those things. It's more about the kids and the team. My job is to recognize some things, and today, there are some things we have to get better at right away or we're not going to be able to make a run at this thing, and I think we're as capable as any other team in our division. The next five games really count."

Quarterback Eric Sullivan passed for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

Bill Shimko scored two touchdowns for Southern.

The game was postponed Thursday night due to lightning and rain.

The Rams play Toms River South at home on Saturday.
