The Cape-Atlantic League American Conference did not disappoint on the opening weekend of the high school football season.

The nine-team conference - Absegami, Atlantic City, Egg Harbor Township, Hammonton, Holy Spirit, Mainland Regional, Millville, Oakcrest and St. Joseph - is among the deepest in South Jersey.

The conference's four games over the weekend were decided by a total of 20 points. St. Joseph's eight-point win over Absegami (37-29) was the largest margin.

One game (Hammonton 22, Holy Spirit 20) was decided in overtime. The outcome of all four games were in doubt late in the fourth quarter.

Here is the new Press Elite 11 ranking of the region's top football teams. Elite 11 rankings for boys and girls soccer, field hockey, boys and girls cross country and girls tennis will debut next Monday.
