EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - Russ Forchion transferred to Hammonton High School before the school year after moving to the area.

He wasn't on the field the last three years as Egg Harbor Township reeled off three straight wins against the Blue Devils, but Forchion still knew Thursday's meeting was a big game.

"I knew this week at practice that everyone meant business," Forchion said.

It showed on Thursday.

Forchion, Jordan Brown and Dave Williams all scored two touchdowns as Hammonton, the No. 4 team in The Press Elite 11, blew out the host Eagles 48-15.

"It was a big win," Forchion said. "Everybody really wanted this win so we came out here and we got the job done."

Egg Harbor Township scored its first touchdown 48 seconds into the first quarter as A.J. Vance caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Ken Doughty. Their final score came on a 29-yard touchdown by Calvin Rice with 14.8 seconds left in the game.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, the 47 minutes in between trips to the end zone belonged almost exclusively to the Blue Devils (4-0).

"I never thought that we would be able to do this, but we proved ourselves wrong," Brown said.

Brown ran for 80 yards and a touchdown on seven carries. He also caught two passes for 23 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Christian Mortellite.

Forchion had 11 carries for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Williams ran 13 times for 55 yards and two touchdowns.

"Everybody that we hand the ball off to does a great job," Brown said. "We work so hard in practice. It's unbelievable the talent that we have this year.

"With the backs that we have and the work ethic that we have I don't think there's any stopping us."

Vance recovered a fumble on the first play of the game and scored two plays later.

But Forchion had touchdown runs of 25 and 15 yards and Williams powered one in from 2 yards out to give Hammonton a 20-7 lead after one quarter.

"We definitely give teams a hard time," Forchion said. "We've got the speed and power and work ethic.

"Everybody blocks for each other. (Brown's) touchdowns are mine. Mine are his and Dave's and everybody's. We definitely are one. We aren't three backs. We are one."

It also helps that teams have a touch time loading the box with Mortellite, a big quarterback with above-average throwing accuracy.

Mortellite, 6-foot-4, 194 pounds, went 8-for-10 for 90 yards and a touchdown.

"We have a lot of weapons offensively," Hammonton coach Pete Lancetta said. "The ability to throw just adds even more. That's a big dimension for us. It's nice calling plays."

The Blue Devils had an extra week of to prepare for the Eagles.

"That was a bye week well used," Lancetta said. "That's the way I look at it.

"They had our number for the last three years so I didn't have to say very much. The kids responded well during practice and it showed tonight."

The Blue Devils host Ocean City next week before a showdown with No. 5 Holy Spirit in Hammonton on Oct. 21.

Brown said the best is yet to come.

"We can always get better," Brown said. "We still made mistakes. We're just going to get better and better and better. It's only week four."
