The first meeting of natural rivals highlights the third weekend of the high school football season.

Oakcrest (0-2) will play at Cedar Creek (2-0) at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Both schools belong to the Greater Egg Harbor School District. Cedar Creek opened in 2010. Many of the Egg Harbor City school's seniors attended Oakcrest as freshmen, including standout quarterback Damon Mitchell.

This game also features two of the state's most talented players in Mitchell and Oakcrest linebacker and fullback Brandon Bell. Mitchell has verbally committed to attend Georgia Tech on a scholarship, while Bell has verbally committed to Penn State.

The following is a preview of Saturday's game and the rest of this weekend's contests.

Cape-Atlantic League


Oakcrest (0-2) at Cedar Creek (2-0)

1 p.m. Saturday: Cedar Creek quarterback Mitchell has completed 19-of-21 passes for 348 yards and four touchdowns this season. He's also run 22 times for 147 yards and a touchdown.

Oakcrest linebacker Bell missed last week's game as a precaution after becoming dehydrated in the season opener against Egg Harbor Township on Sept. 7. Bell made 13 tackles against EHT.

National Conference

Vineland (1-1) at St. Augustine Prep (2-0)

7 p.m. today: St. Augustine has outscored its two opponents 84-15. Hermits running back Calvin Cass has rushed 50 times for 402 yards and six touchdowns. Vineland rallied from a 16-point, second-half deficit to beat Pleasantville 26-22 last Friday. Fighting Clan running back Isaiah Spencer has scored four touchdowns this season. The scores have averaged 55.5 yards.

Lower Cape May Regional (0-2) at Buena Regional (2-0)

7 p.m. today: Buena has emerged as a conference and South Jersey Group II contender. The Chiefs haven't been 2-0 since 2008. Quarterback Eric Rainear (170 passing yards and 153 rushing yards) leads a balanced Buena offense.

Ocean City (0-2) at Bridgeton (1-1)

7 p.m. today (98.7 FM): Ocean City has struggled to score in its first two games. Running back Frank Woolley scored two touchdowns in a 27-12 loss to Buena Regional last Friday. Bridgeton comes off a 35-6 loss to Cedar Creek. The Bulldogs rely on running back Stefon Bowman (33 carries for 214 yards).

Middle Township (0-2) at Pleasantville (0-2)

7 p.m. today: Pleasantville nearly got its first win since 2009 but lost to Vineland 26-22 last Friday. Middle played Absegami tough through the first two quarters last Friday but faded in the second half and lost 32-0.

American Conference

Hammonton (2-0) at Egg Harbor Township (1-1)

7 p.m. today (97.3 FM): Hammonton coach Pete Lancetta is a win away from career victory No. 200. The Blue Devils are No. 4 in The Press Elite 11. Twin running backs David and Dominic Williams spark Hammonton. Each has scored three touchdowns. EHT fullback/linebacker Matt Clayton leads the Eagles in rushing with 127 yards and is tied for the lead in tackles with 13.

Mainland Regional (1-1) at Absegami (1-1)

7 p.m. today (94.3 FM): The winner will get a boost toward the playoffs with several tough games ahead on the schedule. Mainland lost to Millville 35-7 last week. Absegami running back David Hood has rushed for 195 yards and scored five touchdowns this season.

West Jersey Football League

Wildwood (2-0) at Pennsville (1-0)

7 p.m. today: Wildwood has already equaled last season's win total. Warriors running back and linebacker Wesley Hills has carried 40 times for 356 yards and five touchdowns. He also has two sacks and three fumble recoveries on defense. Pennsville was off last week after beating Salem 34-28 in the season opener.

Cumberland Regional (0-2) at Bishop Eustace (2-0)

7 p.m. today: Cumberland lost 21-20 to Cherry Hill West when West stopped a Cumberland two-point conversion attempt with 1 minute, 30 seconds left in the game. Running back De'Han Milledge (40 carries for 210 yards) leads the Cumberland offense. Eustace has allowed just 12 points this season.

Shore Conference

Toms River North (1-1) at Southern Regional (2-0)

7 p.m. today (105.7 FM): Southern, No. 7 in the Elite 11, has yet to allow a point this season. Running back Abe Gonzalez has scored four touchdowns for the Rams. Toms River North comes off a 37-20 loss to Lacey Township. Southern beat North 41-20 last season.

Lacey Township (2-0) at Toms River East (0-2)

7 p.m. today: Lacey is No. 8 in the Elite 11. Lions quarterback Tom Kelly has thrown five touchdown passes. Receiver Bill Belford has caught four touchdown passes and returned a kickoff for a score.

Lakewood (1-1) at Pinelands Regional (0-2)

7 p.m. today: Pinelands struggled in its first two games, allowing more than 50 points in both of them. Lakewood opened with a 23-13 win over Freehold Borough and then lost to Monsignor Donovan 18-14.

Monsignor Donovan (1-1) at Barnegat (1-1)

7 p.m. today: Barnegat rebounded from a season-opening loss to Holmdel with a 27-0 defeat of Manchester Township. Bengals running back Andre Opre rushed for 217 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
