Charles Wynder has run for touchdowns and big gains just about every week this football season.

He couldn't run anywhere last year.

The Cumberland Regional High School senior missed all of the 2009 season with a broken left ankle.

He's rushed 106 times for 807 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound Wynder has been at his best in the past two games.

Wynder, 19, ran for 164 yards and three touchdowns in a 36-0 win over Deptford on Oct. 22. He carried 27 times for 253 yards and four touchdowns in a 40-28 win over Woodrow Wilson last Friday.

Cumberland has a recent history of standout running backs. Andrew Pierce, a 2009 graduate, is a freshman standout at the University of Delaware.

Cumberland (4-3) hosts Clearview (3-4) at 7 p.m. today. The Colts need a win to boost their chances of reaching the South Jersey Group III playoffs.

On how he broke his ankle: I broke it in a preseason practice. I was running up the sideline and I got tackled from behind. When I went down, I knew my season was over.

On his success the past two weeks: Before the game I just talk to my line and tell them to block the (defense) for two seconds. That's all they have to do. They block well.

On last week's win over Woodrow Wilson: We were happy. Everybody doubted us. They thought we were going to lose to them because they beat Delsea.

On whether he prefers playing offense or defense: I love offense. You just get the ball and keep running.

On playing with Pierce: I was his backup. We were both back deep for kick returns. I loved playing behind A.P.

On what he does for fun: I lift weights. I have a gym in the basement of my home. I go down there with a couple of friends.
