Jim Cooper sets kicking point mark in Mainland win over Oakcrest

Jim Cooper connected for three extra points to claim the school record for most kicking points in a career as Mainland Regional defeated visiting Oakcrest 27-0 in a Cape-Atlantic League American Conference football game Friday.

Cooper, who is committed to play at Temple University, now has 123 kicking points. The old record was 122 set by Chris Malick, a 2007 graduate.

Fernando Mayers and Brett Edmunds each scored twice for the Mustangs (2-3), who snapped a three-game skid.

Mayers scored his first touchdown of the season on Mainland’s first drive of the game on a 1-yard run.

Edmunds added a score in the first quarter with a 3-yard run and scored again in the second quarter on a 24-yard run. Edmunds now has three touchdowns this season.

Mayers scored as time expired in the third quarter on another running play at the goal line and Cooper secured the record on the play.
