The Lower Cape May Regional High School football team beat visiting Pleasantville 44-25 on Saturday and clinched a South Jersey Group II playoff spot.
Lower improved to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the Cape-Atlantic League United Division. Pleasantville is 0-8 and 0-5.
LCM quarterback Eric Fletcher threw to wide receiver Vance Matthews for a 25-yard touchdown, and Fletcher also scored on a 30-yard run. Tyler Sole had two interceptions, including one the Pleasantville 2-yard line, which he returned for a touchdown. At running back, Sole also ran for a 10-yard score. The Caper Tigers also scored defensively when Lower blocked a punt and defensive lineman Josh Newkirk returned it 30 yards for a score. LCM running back Frankie Zieglar had 111 yards rushing, including a 10-yard TD.
Fletcher twice threw to wide receiver Chris Alicea for 2-point conversions, and Alicea also ran an end-around for 2 points. Lower also scored a 2-point conversion when Mike Mulligan passed to Jordan Hazel.
Pleasantville defensive end Dontaye Rivera returned two interceptions for touchdowns, from 10 yards and 45 yards away, respectively. The Greyhounds also scored touchdowns on a 2-yard run by quarterback Jacob Haines and a 5-yard run by running back Josh Evans.
