On the opening play of the second half, Mainland Regional junior Chris Kaczmarski returned the kickoff 60 yards for a touchdown to give the Mustangs a 10-7 lead. Mainland then scored 21 unanswered points to pull away from Buena and keep its playoff hopes alive.
Latroy Spencer scored on 2- and 35-yard runs to extend Mainland's lead. Quarterback Tom Bradway connected with Gordan Prince for a 76-yard TD pass.
Michael Haygood scored both of Buena's touchdowns. The senior running back scored on a 63-yard run in the third quarter and a 41-yard run late in the fourth quarter.
