Manchester Township 35,
Barnegat High School came out strong, but couldn't carry that momentum into the second half in a 35-21 loss to Manchester Township. It was both teams' first Shore Conference B-South matchup of the season.
Barnegat was trailing at the half until running back David Smithman capped the Bengals' second-half opening drive with a 4-yard touchdown run.
Following the play, Barnegat set up for a two-point conversion but had to try again after a 5-yard penalty was called against them.
The Bengals faked the kick and Smithman ran it in for the touchdown to tie the score at 21-all.
Barnegat held Manchester Township scoreless in the third, but the Hawks cashed in on two costly fumbles in the fourth.
Joe Johnson scored three touchdowns for Manchester giving him eight in just two games. His first touchdown came in the second quarter when he broke four tackles for a 14-yard touchdown run. Johnson rushed for more than 200 yards.
