From Press staff reports

Ocean City's Chris Curran tied a Cape-Atlantic League record and broke a school record by throwing five touchdown passes as the Red Raiders defeated Cumberland Regional 33-22 in a non-conference football game on Monday.

The previous Ocean City record for touchdown passes was four, set by Bert Avis in 1951 and tied in 1972 by Dave Andrews. Curran ties former Mainland Regional quarterback Matt Flynn, who set the CAL record in 2001. Middle Township's Nolan Quinn Middle tied the mark in 2007 and St. Augustine Prep's Dustin Thomas also tied the record earlier this year.

"I had no idea (about the record), even after four touchdowns," Curran said. "I found out after the game it was a record, it was kind of a surprise actually. You see so many great passers getting all these records, to have a record is an incredible honor. I'm definitely suprised, but it's a humbling surprise."

Curran was 14-for-24 for 188 yards on the record day. Josh Grande and Andrew Fiorentino each caught a pair of touchdowns from Curran while Mike Coccodrilli caught one of his own. Curran also serves as the teams kicker and went 3-for-5 on extra point attempts.

Cumberland's Sage Brown caught a five yard touchdown pass from Steve Garron with two seconds remaining before halftime to put the Colts on the board. Charles Clark scored a 75 yard touchdown run for Cumberland in the third quarter before his cousin Taron Clark scored a 4-yard touchdown in the fourth.

Ocean City will host Pleasantville on Thanksgiving day at 10 a.m. while Cumberland hosts A.P. Schalick at 10 a.m.
