QB Hartman leads Pinelands over Lakewood

Quarerback Jeremy Hartman scored three rushing touchdowns to lead the Pinelands Regional High School football team over visiting Lakewood 35-16 on Saturday in the season opener.

The Wildcats accumulated more than 400 yards in total offense.

Trailing 8-0 in the first quarter, Pinelands scored 35 straight points. Pinelands' first score came on a safety as Jason Way forced an intentional grounding in the end zone. Hartman added a TD on a 1-yard run, and Tyler Muson kicked the extra point to put Pinelands up to stay at 9-8.

Mike Keller, alternating at quarterback with Hartman, scored on a 1-yard sneak in the second quarter. An 18-yard pass from Keller to Kevin Luby set up the touchdown.

Hartman rushed for two second-half touchdowns, including a 45-yarder in the third quarter. Tailback Matt McLain ran 5 yards for a score later in the quarter to make it 28-8. Hartman added a 10-yard touchdown run with seven minutes left in the game. McLain and teammate Mike Michaelson each had more than 100 yards rushing.

Lakewood's other score came with 45 seconds left in the game.

Records - Pinelands 1-0; Lakewood 0-1.
