This was supposed to be a season where the Bridgeton High School football team would let its young players gain experience.
Instead, it's become one of the most intriguing Bridgeton seasons in years.
The Bulldogs (6-4) play at Delsea Regional (9-1) in a South Jersey Group III semifinal at 7 p.m. today. Delsea is No. 6 in The Press Elite 11.
This is Bridgeton's first trip to a South Jersey semifinal since 2009 when it lost to Delsea 55-12 in the Group II semifinals.
This year's Bridgeton team has not only exceeded expectations but they've done so with plenty of flair.
Bridgeton's final regular season win was a 36-30, three-overtime victory over Vineland on Nov. 9.
The Bulldogs then rallied from 17-0 deficit to beat Barnegat 18-17 in the quarterfinals on Nov. 16.
Just like in 2009, Delsea - a perennial power - will be a formidable opponent. The Crusaders have won eight straight and are the favorite to win the Group III championship.
Key players for Bridgeton: Ronald Williams, QB/DB/K, 42-of-113 for 591 yards and six touchdowns. He leads team with 89 tackles on defense; Stefon Bowman, RB, 170 carries for 872 yards and eight touchdowns; Cappadonna Miller, RB/WR/DB, 285 rushing yards and 362 receiving yards, has made 61 tackles with seven interceptions on defense; Nazir Williams, DE, 8.5 sacks.

Keys to victory: Bridgeton must keep its poise and control the game with its running game.
The Bulldogs also need to stabilize the game in the first quarter and prevent Delsea from opening up a big first-half lead.
